Iceland - or as it is correctly called lýðveldið ísland - had been on my list of "places to visit" since quite some time. And then finally back in summer 2007 I took some weeks off and visited this country in the North between mainland Europe and Greenland. The island is located right on the mid-atlantic ridge and, thus, is a volcanically and geologically active place. The landscape is very much defined on this activity and you can see traces of volcanism all over the place. Below is a selection of my favorite shots from that trip.
